The buildingSMART Professional Certification Program provides international validation that you are highly skilled and recognisably training in digital ways of working.
As the construction industry continues its digital transformation, the need for upskilling increases. This means that people with extensive experience are in high demand and what better way to showcase your skills, knowledge and experience than becoming buildingSMART Certified.
What is the buildingSMART Professional Certification Program?
Professional Certification supports both individuals in achieving international recognition and training organisations to educate and certify individuals according to a recognised global learning framework.
There are two levels of Certification: Foundation and Practitioner.
Foundation is your first step. It focuses on knowledge-based learning, delivered through compact trainings with an online examination to conclude.
For the more experienced individuals, the Practitioner level provides a comprehensive certification, which focusses on applied learning and practical expertise. That means that your knowledge and skills are assessed in a project context.

Two Levels of Certification
There are two levels of Certification: Foundation and Practitioner.
Foundation
A simple, fast and secure online testing and qualification process
Upon successful completion of the training, the participant can undertake the online assessment to become buildingSMART certified. You can view the platform and register for a short demo exam with the following link.
Practitioner
A comprehensive approach to learning aligned to ISO 17204 and ISO 19650
You will be challenged to apply your openBIM knowledge, skills and experience in a live project environment.
For Individuals Applying to the Program

For Chapters
The Program is managed and operated regionally by buildingSMART Chapters. If your Chapter is interested in offering the Program it will be a key asset to your members.
Taking control of the Program management will not only help in the acceleration of BIM skills in your region, but will strengthen your relationship with members.
buildingSMART International has developed all the learning content, as well as well as operational guidelines and provides the technical infrastructure for the online qualification platform – therefore getting started is quick and easy.
Chapters are responsible for localising and translating the learning content, as well as supporting training providers in correctly structuring their courses and ultimately approving their learning content.

The buildingSMART Professional Certification Program has been developed over the last three years through the collaboration of experts from around the world.
The work is lead by the Program Committee - representatives from seven buildingSMART Chapters - and is peer reviewed by an international advisory panel

The Program is being developed and coordinated by the buildingSMART Professional Certification Committee. This is a team of specialists representing nine buildingSMART Chapters: Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, UK & Ireland and USA.
