Initial Certification Process
Interested individuals apply via the buildingSMART website, submitting documentation to verify prerequisites, such as a Foundation certificate, proof of completion of Registered Training Provider’s training (minimum 24 hours), and two years of relevant practical experience. After verification, candidates purchase the exam and gain access to the Qualification Platform (QP).
Assessment and Examination
No later than one year after completion of the training candidates take a two-hour exam covering buildingSMART standards and solutions. Exam takes place either in a classroom or remotely. If national content is included, an additional 30-minute oral exam is required. Candidates must score at least 75% to pass. Re-examination (fee applies) is allowed once within one year period from the training completion.
Recertification
Certification is valid for three years. To maintain certification, individuals must complete an 8-hour update training and pass a recertification exam. Certified professionals may use the title "buildingSMART Level 2 Certified Professional" (bS-CP-2).
